About
Hello! I started Grad Mental Notes because of the difficulty I had finding mental health resources, despite being an environmental inundated with people struggling with their mental health. As I stated at other places on this webpage, I am not a trained counselor and have no professional expertise regarding mental illness. I have received training in Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention and highly recommend anyone interested in getting involved in mental health advocacy do the same. This webpage is designed simply to make beneficial resources readily available to all, particularly graduate students. At the same time, I aim to highlight some of the latest research and advocacy initiatives in an effort to fight stigma and build community. If you're interested in helping out and getting involved, please feel free to contact me! I'd love help building this site into a resource for everyone.
As for myself, my name is Cedric Hagen and I'm a PhD candidate in geology at Oregon State University (College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences). I use he/him/his, and I'm a first-generation college student. I'm involved in mental health advocacy for graduate students throughout my college (CEOAS, via CAGS) and across my university (Oregon State, via CGE). If you're interested in my research (Earth history; stratigraphic correlation; Cambrian explosion), feel free to check it out here. I'm also interested in teaching theory and how instructors can best accommodate students with mental illness, so if you have any thoughts on that please share :) |
